How Hard is Shea Weber’s Slap Shot?
Shea Weber’s slap shot vs. Bobby Hull’s in Champions vs. Legends Documentary
As mentioned in previously blogs, Champions vs. Legends is a 1 hr documentary that challenges today’s winter sports champions to compete against legends of the past, using the same equipment used in their day.
For our hockey challenge, we enlist the help of NHL All-star Shea Weber. He’s joined by NHL prospect and Gold-medal winning Canadian Jr. National team goalie, Carter Hart.
For the challenge, Shea Weber has to try to beat the fastest slap-shot speed record of 118.3 MPH, achieved by famed NHL legend Bobby Hull in the 1960s. Hull used a wooden stick that has much less torque and is shorter in length than the modern carbon fiber stick used by Shea Weber.
Do you think the speed of Shea Weber’s slap shot will surpass Bobby Hull, the “Golden Jet”, in this challenge?
If you’re in Canada, you can watch this story unfold and our other sports challenges in the full episode of Champions vs. Legends and on CBC The Nature of Things, January 28, 8pm. It will also air in Europe, Japan and around the world in the weeks leading up to the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
