Equalizer Winter Production Shoots Off

Equalizer Winter Production is Underway

Our winter edition of The Equalizer is well under way. The Equalizer Winter is a one-hour Canadian/German co-production that investigates the evolution of technology in sport. The documentary seeks answers to questions such as, what if the greatest high-performance athletes – present and past – could compete against each other on a level playing field? If competitive conditions were equalized, would today’s stars come out on top, or would they be beaten by heroes of the past?

It’s exciting to be working with so many talented athletes to create our 2nd instalment of the Equalizer challenge. To help with our investigation, Professor Steve Haake, Director of the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University, is lending his expertise in sports engineering and research.

One of our recent shoots took place at the Kaunertal in the Tyrol of Austria. We met with the talented Anna Schaffelhuber, a multiple gold medal winner in the 2014 Winter Para-olympics, who has won several awards throughout her career.

We visited St. Moritz with bobsled champions Alex Rödigger & Max Arndt.  Steve discussed vintage equipment with master bobsled builder Peter.

We also took an energetic day trip to the Hockey Hall of Fame to measure Bobby Hull’s hockey stick from 1968

Our aim is to better understand how the difference in curvature of hockey sticks, affected players’ abilities from 1968 to present day.

We’re looking forward to completing the project and having it aired by several networks during the winter season.

The Equalizer is a coproduction with Berlin Producers for broadcast in 2018 on CBC Nature of Things, SRC Explora and ZDF Arte and many other international broadcasters.
