IN PHOTOS: Behind-the-scenes at the Welland Pan Am Flatwater Centre with star kayaker Adam van Koeverden
In our innovative sports documentary The Equalizer, we’ve selected 5 elite summer athletes who will run, swim, kayak, cycle or throw using equipment from the past to see if they can beat the world records set by former greats. (For more on how we’ll factor in the variables and equalize the matchups see our previous post.)
One of our star athletes is 4-time Olympic medallist Adam van Koeverden. We brought Adam to the Welland Pan Am Flatwater Centre in Welland, Ontario – site of the Canoe/Kayak events of the 2015 Pan Am Games – and asked him to paddle in both his own kayak and a restored kayak that legend Gert Fredriksson would have raced. Adam was more than up for the challenge – he even contributed a vintage paddle to the shoot!
