Pennsylvania screenings “good experience” for Raw Opium director

Film director Peter Findlay says he had a great trip into the American heartland. He was at Gettysburg University and Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania last month, screening the film Raw Opium: Pain, Pleasure, Profits

Although the first screening at Gettsysburg University drew a sparse crowd, Findlay says the screening at Shippensburg University “was packed.”

“I was brought into several classes during the day [at Shippensburg] to talk more broadly about the experience of making the film and my views on the issues of harm reduction and enforcement.”

Raw Opium: Pain, Pleasure, Profits is Kensington’s feature documentary about the complex issues surrounding the war on drugs, the global drug trade and heroin addiction.

Nearly three years after the Raw Opium launch for a limited theatrical run (followed by TV broadcasts around the world and a community marketing program funded by the Open Society Foundation), university and community groups continue to host their own film screenings. Raw Opium lends itself well to discussions related to drug policy through its wide-ranging examination of the international trade in opium and heroin.
