Music Industry & Fans Recognize Serena Ryder (VIDEO)

This spring has been big for Canadian Singer-Songwriter, Serena Ryder. At the Juno Awards this year, Serena Ryder’s album Harmony won the Adult Alternative Album of the Year, and her first single “Stompa” is dominating in music media.

New York Times recently called Stompa the ‘Song of the Summer’, comparing it to Melissa Etheridge’s  1993 hit “I’m the Only One.” Meanwhile, Ryder’s Stompa won a Much Music Video Award for Best Rock/Alternative Video of the Year, and her performances at the MMVA’s and Toronto’s Luminato Festival were highly praised.

In 2009 we produced a short feature documentary about Serena Ryder for our multi-platform series, City Sonic.

Here she tells us about her story, growing up in a small town, moving to Toronto, and experiencing city life.

Her intense voice and music weaves the short documentary together.
