SYNOPSIS

Producer/director Robert Lang and cinematographer Guy Clarkson accompany singer/songwriter Bruce Cockburn as he returns to the spectacular Himalayan country of Nepal after twenty years away.

Bruce discovers a land where much has changed. With a Maoist government recently installed, and women newly empowered, there are fresh initiatives to deal with the grinding poverty of the majority of the Nepali people. But it’s also a land where, in the remotest areas, life is lived as it has been for centuries, with salt caravans, subsistence farming on steep mountain terraces, and off-the-grid villages connected by an ancient network of footpaths.

Return to Nepal is a revealing glimpse of a corner of the world that is largely unknown, but whose people have much to offer: spiritual wisdom, tactics for survival in a harsh land, and a shining example of interdependence and determination.
