Since opening its doors in 2003, Insite has been a place where users inject drugs and connect to healthcare services such as the treatment of disease, addiction counselling, housing and community supports. With funding through The BC Ministry of Health, the clinic employs a harm-reduction approach, aiming to decrease the adverse health affects and the social and economic consequences of drug use, without requiring abstinence from drug use.

 
After two failed court cases, the Canadian government appealed to the Supreme Court to shut Insite down. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled (in a unanimous 9-0 decision) that Insite is allowed to stay open.

In 2010 Romesh started surveying opium addicts and the extent of illicit opium cultivation in Lohit and Anjaw districts. Exactly a year ago, he submitted a complete report to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Romesh says that nothing has been done.

 
There is continued widespread illicit cultivation, with some opium being saved for personal use, but the larger part being sold in the neighbourhood to new users.
